The “Introduction to Clay” class welcomes students with no prior experience into the foundations of ceramics. Sessions cover hand-building through pinch pots, coiling, and slab construction, along with wheel throwing basics including wedging, centering, and pulling walls into cylinders and bowls. Students finish their pieces through trimming, stamping, and glazing before kiln firing, while learning the properties of clay as it moves from plastic to leather-hard to bone-dry.
Clay invites a creative conversation between earth, water, fire, and air, and this class offers a first chance to join that conversation. Students leave with new technical skills and a set of finished, functional pieces of their own making.
